Am I Being An Example?

by New Life Berwyn 6. May 2010 09:39

On the way to church Sunday morning my husband and I were talking about how it is that we as believers need to be examples, and yet that is the last thing that we do. No one is perfect, including myself, and we all have our struggles but that is what Christ lives for. Are we weak yes, but it's through that weakness that God's power is made perfect (2 Cor 12:9-10). He is here to direct our paths (Proverbs 3:6), to set us free (John 8:31-36). However, although we are not perfect and know that as Christians we will always be criticized, we still have to be examples!

I am just amazed at God's goodness and faithfulness. My heart and mind were racing on the way to church and when the sermon was given, God was reminding and reaffirming that every single thought and thing that came out of my mouth in the car on the way to church is what is expected of us as believers. How is it that we can constantly claim and express to people we know, whether it's through a conversation or facebook, that we believe in God, that we stand firm in His Word and in our faith, yet at the first sign of something going wrong, all that comes out of our mouth is such negativity? How is it that we can claim that we are new creations in Christ, yet we still go back to our old ways, to old habits doing things we know are not of God and being places that are not pleasing to Him? Are we human? Yes. Are there times that we just need to vent? Yes. We all struggle, we all have that right but we have to be careful how we use the rights given to us.

People are always watching us, God is ALWAYS watching us. What examples (1 Ti 4:12; Tit 2:7) are we to each other but more importantly to non-believers and people whom God has planted a seed in but are still so frail in the faith? Don't we realize the harm we are causing to our relationship with God and the harm we are doing to those weak in the faith and those who don't have any?

God truly spoke to me today and reminded me that I have to sit back and examine myself and my behavior. Is my behavior Godly or worldly? Am I setting and being an example to those around me, whether I know them or not? God is so faithful, so constant and His word is truth! He has told me, has told all of us, He will never let the righteous fall (Psalms 55:22). We are called to be examples, we are called to be salt and light.

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."  (Matthew 5:13-16)

Greater Than Great

by New Life Berwyn 7. January 2010 05:05

It’s bigger then the sky, the sun, the moon, and the stars. Its strength endures through all things good or bad, and only continues to feel stronger. It’s pure, genuine, tangible, and is for everyone who will accept it. Can you guess what it is?

The love of our heavenly Father! Many people search their whole lives for their one true love. Women search for a perfect man that is attractive, witty, and very romantic. Men search for a woman that is caring, loving, and genuinely understands them.

Reality T.V. tells us that 10 men or women can find true love in five weeks. These people pour their hearts out to a complete stranger in hopes that they will love them back, and 99.9% of the time they feel feelings of affection, but they never truly fall in love. I'm so glad that our heavenly Father loves us no matter what. His love is not something that is merited, or can be bought. Ladies, God is a gentlemen who opens doors, pulls out chairs, has an amazing sense of humor, and most importantly will never force anything upon you. Men, God totally understands everything you go through, gets your humor, and in my opinion is a Cubs fan!

God has manners and will not come unless you invite Him in. So, I encourage you today if you have been searching for the kind of love that sweeps you off your feet invite God into your life. Allow Him to love you, and to take you places that dreams are made of. I cannot tell you how many times the love of my Father has lifted me up, and given me hope. I am, and will always be completely enamored by Him.

Singing the chorus to How He Loves Us by Kim Walker, "He loves us, Oh how He loves us…If grace is an ocean then we’re all sinking."

In His Love,

Busyness

by New Life Berwyn 17. December 2009 05:14

Have you ever felt like you were forced to be the energizer bunny? Keep going and going…  Whether it’s the daily cares of life or added stress of the holiday season, you feel the need to keep going.

Let me ask one more question.   Where is God in all this?

We have all been prone to the above time, and time again.   We have set God on the bench to observe, as we take each play of our lives into our own hands.  We absorb the daily cares and stresses of sickness, or financial burden that strike our household.  You may say, “It’s not my intention to leave God on the bench, but I just forget to include Him in my busy schedule.”

Many times we run ourselves until we are on empty, and then we try to run ourselves a bit more.   All of a sudden, we feel alone, alone to handle every dilemma that comes our way.  But, in the midst of our pain He calls out from the bench, “Trust in me with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)   At this point, we have no choice but to surrender our cares and stresses to the Lord almighty.

As the year is coming to a close, and a new one is about to begin let’s make a conscience effort to keep God in our daily lives.   No matter the circumstances or how busy our schedules may be, let’s seek His will in all we do, and He will show us which path to take. (Proverbs 3:6)

Blessings,

Christina Hernandez

A note from Sergio

by New Life Berwyn 17. December 2009 05:12

God bless you,

I trust that you are having a good day today, since everyday that God creates is a good day... even though we all have our own trials and struggles in our everyday lives, we can always find a way or a reason to be thankful for another day.

I want to take a few minuets and first of all invite you to come and visit us at NEW LIFE in our Berwyn campus where God is truly doing amazing things.  For the past 7 months I have had the honor of serving at our Berwyn campus along side a great team, and let me tell you that God has been speaking directly to each and everyone present, especially myself.

I can say that God is calling for all of us to be leaders in our homes, in our jobs, in our everyday lives. God is really challenging us to look at every person through His eyes so that we can work to spread His love and His gospel to all.  This is one area in my life that God has opened my eyes to, and really worked on.  I have plenty of shortcomings, we all do as humans, but I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity God continues to give me to prove myself to Him.  I’m thankful for all that He continues to bless me, and my family with.  I’m thankful that He is still dealing in my life, and continues to speak to me.  I’m especially thankful that He is on my side.

I really want to encourage you to trust in God, and let yourself be guided by His voice.  Find a church that is guided by the Spirit of God, and that teaches His word and you will see how much richer your life will be!

The Lasting Legacy

by New Life Berwyn 17. November 2009 13:47

Legacy is described in Webster’s dictionary as something handed down from an ancestor or a predecessor from the past: or that which is inherited.

The Lasting Legacy
After everything else was gone, that was the one thing that remained; the lives He (Jesus) saved. That’s what will remain as the legacy of your life and mine; the lives we saved. That’s what makes a life a life that matters.

We have been chosen and called to leave a Legacy, to make a difference, and to bring forth change through Christ’s Love; If we stop and think for a moment we will realize that we are not just here to take up space in this world.  We are God's creation. Formed in our mother's womb for a purpose.  It is God’s intent for us to come into this world so we can impact the many lives He will bring our way.   We are called to be fruitful through the spreading of His divine word and gifts.  So how will you be remembered?  Will you be the one who influenced many lives or the one who was just a follower?  God has destined us to greatness! We must step out of our comfort zone so that we may reach, teach, mentor, disciple, and outreach to the lost. There is a crying generation, and people are yearning to hear a word of Hope, Peace, and Love, and we have within us the ability to change lives.  Will you leave a Lasting Legacy?
