If you are reading this blog it is probably an indication that you are involved in the 25-day prayer and fasting of New Life Chicago. Even though we are barely into the fast, we have all become aware of the impact a change in our routine can make. Our normal routine is to eat three times a day (it is something to be grateful for that we live in a part of the world where this is an option for us, unlike 800 million people—300 million of them children—on planet earth who go to bed hungry every day). But, when we make a choice to not follow our normal routine of eating so we can focus more intently on God and what He wants to do in us and through us, we do notice it.
As part of our focus on God today, let’s thank Him for the way He provides our daily bread, not taking it for granted. Let’s also recognize that for us participating in a fast is an option, a choice, meaning that we can have something to eat if we so choose. We are soooo blessed! Turning our back (and our mouths) for a specific period of time on something we can do (eat!) for the purpose of getting closer to God seems to make good sense. Let’s be encouraged today to keep on! And, what about providing a meal for a homeless person or donating some food to a shelter?
