by Al Garcia 4. September 2010 13:25

The most recent Dept. of Labor unemployment number is 9%.  Many people have been affected by downsizing, restructuring, and business closures. On Tuesday September 21st at 7pm New Life Oak Forest will be starting a new Career Coaching Group for unemployed, underemployed,or misemployed individuals.  The group will provide practical and professional career help with a firm faith foundation.  I am asking you to help get the word out about this Career Coaching Group.  Everybody knows somebody who has been affected in this "new economy". If you happen to be one of the fortunate ones who is working I would like to suggest that you : A) Volunteer at the group  B) Donate to support the group C) Pray for this group. ABC NEWS recently did a story on how churches can be instrumental in helping people cope with job loss and reentry into the workforce.  I believe God wants to use our church to help many people in this way.  If you would like more information about New Life Oak Forest's new Career Coaching Group Click Here.  I hope you can be involved some how.

Are You Stressed Out?

by Al Garcia 23. March 2010 05:37

How stressed are you? Have you sweated blood yet?

Hermatidrosis is the medical term that describes the rare experience of sweating blood.  Our human bodies are designed with many blood vessels around the sweat glands. When these vessels are put under great stress they can rupture and bleed into the sweat glands giving the appearance that the person is sweating blood.

The bible tells us that the week before Jesus was crucified that he spent time in the garden of Gethsemane and contemplated the great sacrifice he would be making on the cross for mankind.

The great stress of the sin of the world was on his shoulders.  Jesus took the stress so that we don’t have to.  Cast your cares upon Jesus because He cares for you.
On Easter Sunday, April 4, New Life Oak Forest will be presenting the Ultimate Love Stop a Multi-Media Drama. Presentation times will be at 9am,10:30am and 12pm.  Invite someone you know who needs to have the stress lifted off their life.  See you there!

Happy New Year!

by Al Garcia 31. December 2009 10:17
Happy New Year.. New Life Oak Forest Family,

As another year draws to a close I just wanted to share how grateful I am for all of you. I'm looking forward to an exciting year of seeing God move in some awesome ways.

Currently we are in a teaching series entitled The Road Back-A Recovery JourneyMany people have gone down the wrong road in life only to see their life crash.  You or someone you care about may be in this situation.  I want to encourage you to attend New Life Oak Forest and experience how God will work in your life through this series.

Starting on January 24th we will begin a new series entitled God Provides.  This is a message that all people must hear.  God does provide and He wants to provide our every need.  In these challenging economic times it may be tempting to doubt that God will provide.  Join us as we drop in on the lives of several people to see how God provided supernaturally in their lives.  Be looking for special invite tickets in the Sunday bulletins so that you can invite your friends and family to God Provides.

During the month of January we will be having a special emphasis on prayer and fasting.  I want to invite as many of you who can make it to a special time of prayer with me and the New Life Oak Forest leadership team on January 17th from 5p-6p at New Life Oak Forest, 5333 W. 151st.

The beginning of a New Year is a great time to reflect on your life and to set some goals for the New Year.  To help you set goals I want to share with you a coaching tool I use to help gain insight on how a person is living their life. It's called the Wheel of Life.  You can download it by clicking here.   The instructions are included with it.

Lastly, I want to encourage all of us to read our Bibles daily.  The last several years I have used the One Year Bible to help me stay on track.  This year I will be reading through the One Year Chronological version of the Bible.  It's fun and easy to do it this way.  I encouage everyone to give it a try.

God, I pray for the people of New Life. That we will have a year that is devoted and focused on You.  You, are the author and finisher of our faith.  We declare your lordship in our lives. I pray that you will provide our every need and even grant us the desires of our hearts. I pray that many lives will turn to you and that you will grow our church inside and out.  We love you. We praise you. We exalt you. We know that God Provides.  In the blessed name of Jesus, we pray.

In Christ

The Church Was Trashed Today

by Al Garcia 4. October 2009 11:57
I walked into church today and it had been trashed.  Garbage everywhere even on the altar.  Were we the victim of insensitvie vandals?

No, today was the kickoff to a brand new series we are doing at New Life Community Church entitled, "Out of Control". So our creative department got really creative.
Just goes to show you how easily things can get out of control in our spiritual lives as well. Yes, we are free in Christ.

Nevertheless our freedom carries with it a huge responsibility.

He was recently hired!

by Al Garcia 16. September 2009 19:32
Hello Career Explorers,

If you are unemployed, underemployed, or misemployed, why not attend this weeks Career Crossroads Support and Resource Group?  Check out what one of our graduates had to say about the group:
Pastor Al,
"Thanks for your insight and knowledge of how to customize our resumes for each job opening. I was so much more prepared when I was in the interviewing stage of my job search. I always prayed before every application I applied for and before I was interviewed. This helped me spiritually be prepared for each interviewers question and calm my anxiety. This career group has helped me network with others that I could help with some leads for their special gifts. I have been blessed by God in the job he has given me to fit my needs and job skills. I pray and thank God every morning and night for his timing not mine. He is in control of all that happens for us. Thanks for being Gods servant to his people. Your time and effort is very well appreciated and revered from all whom attend your career classes.
God Bless you and your staff," - Richard Gray

Have you given up on your Job Search?

by Al Garcia 7. September 2009 17:09
Well don't!

There's a saying that says,"even a blind squirrel will find an acorn someday"

The Bible says, that we are to ask and we will receive an answer, we are to seek and we will find, we are to knock and the door will be opened for us.
If you haven't found a job yet, don't get discouraged.  Get proactive and attend this weeks Career Explorer Support Group Meeting at New Life Oak Forest, 5333 W. 151st Wednesday from 9am-11am.

Take a look at what one of our participants had to say,
"Pastor Al,
Thanks for the message and support.  I was fortunate to get a job about 2mths ago and am happy with it.  I know it is tough out there as I was unemployed for 5 mths. If I can offer anything to your agenda and program, I can say this.  You offer great support and a great program.  The most important thing I picked up from you was to keep networking and I signed up on Linkedin based on your recommendation.  The net is fine for keeping your name out there via resumes (I did get a few interviews from sites like CareerBuilder and Monster,) but networking in groups like yours and other contacts seem to be the best way to go, at least it was in my case, but most importantly you have to keep the faith in yourself and God.  It's easy to get down in a situation , but things happen for reasons and I'll continue to pray for you and those you are working so hard to help. Keep up your good work.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Tom Borbely "

So you see, opportunities are out there you just need to know how and where to look.  Attend the group this week!

Now for those of you who are working already, I have also come up with a service for companies and organizations.  I have produced several seminars that can help your company and or organization but you need to be the one to introduce it. If you think your company can benefit from the following presentations let me know.

Here is a listing of the different seminars I can do:
  • Establishing a 360 Degree assessment
  • Change Management
  • Implementing an Audit Program
  • Benchmarking
  • Complaint Handling
  • Leading the way for Change
  • Performance Appraisal Systems
  • Problem Solving
  • Project Management
  • Relationship Management Systems
I'm currently working on several others but they are not fully developed yet.  They are:
  • Facilitation Skills
  • Introduction to Strategy
  • Conflict Management
  • Leadership and Delegation
  • Dealing with Employee Absenteeism
  • Job Analysis

Sincerely,

Powerful Life Changing Picnic!

by Al Garcia 22. July 2009 05:39
Hello Everyone,

I wanted to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the picnic a success. It really was. I think it was our best one so far.  Besides the face painting, food, and overall fun, this was indeed a life changing event for many people.

Reconciliation Wedding:  Adela and Paul Alvarado had been divorced. Within the last couple of years , even though they were divorced, they started coming to New Life Oak Forest. During that time they both surrendered their lives to Christ. They got mentored and joined small groups. God continued to work on them and they realized that they still loved each other and wanted to be together. What you witnessed at the picnic was a reconcilation wedding. Paul and Adela got remarried to one another and then followed that up by being baptized.

Baptisms: I asked each one of you to bring a gallon of water to fill the baptistry and we did it. Over all we baptized 9 people at the picnic.  Each one of the baptisms represents a life that has been changed by the power of God.
Please keep the following recently baptized people in your prayers; Paul,Adela,Mario, Crystal, Carol, Lori, Jill, Scott, and Dana.

Salvations: To top it all off we had two people surrender their lives to Jesus during the service at the picnic.

In case you haven't realized it, God is up to something at New Life Oak Forest.  And we get to be part of it!

He is Awesome!

Do you live in a Step or Blended Family?

by Al Garcia 27. April 2009 05:06
Grace and I just completed 36 hours of course work on Step Family Coaching/Counseling. We have satisfied the certification requirements of the Step Family Foundation in New York.  We are excited about returning to Chicago and working with the many families who are in step/blended situations and are dealing with the unique pressures and challenges of this family dynamic.

Researchers tell us that by 2010 the Step Family will be the predominant family system in America.  Unfortunately 3 out of 4 blended family relationships fail. Unless there is intervention this trend will continue and become worse.  Grace and I believe that the church should be a beacon of hope for all families. Jesus is the answer and the provider. We believe that He has provided the help that so many families need today.

If you belong to a blended family, you are not defective. You are not second class. You are not damaged goods. You are loved by God through Jesus and He has a plan to bring healing to you and your entire family.  Please pray for me and Grace as we minister to the families of our community.

The Saints Kept Marching In

by Al Garcia 12. March 2009 07:51
I was glad that I was in that number.  It was a beautiful sight to see followers of Jesus Christ walk into the New Life Oak Forest sanctuary to pray.  We got off to a real good start for our 24/7 prayer focus. The Celebrate Recovery group decided to sacrifice some of their group time to help launch the 24/7 prayer time. So we actually started early around 7:30pm.  We were definitely in the thick of it around 8pm when I looked up and saw my brother Pastor Mark kneeling at the altar and crying out to God for our church. I was also very encouraged to see my colleagues, Pastor Paco and Matt from New Life Little Village.

Since I was at the church most of the night I was able to witness the faithful saints as they marched in to pray.  It reminded me of soldiers who were reporting for duty and then relieving the preceding person's post.  It was in the wee hours when I thought that I might be the only one praying but God sent prayers all thoughout the evening at just the right time.

Overall the prayer night was a real success and blessing.  I've come away from it with a renewed sense of "God is With Us".  He is working to accomplish something great for His glory and we get to be a part of it.  This is so Amazing.

It was during my time of prayer with Pastor Mark that I sensed an assurance about our prayers for the 100 block gap. Where we are praying for God to open 5 new locations in Chicago and Burbs.  I was really encouraged to think that God is in the process of opening the door for one of those locations even this year.

Will you be in that number when the saints go marching in?   If you missed the prayer time at New Life Oak Forest you can still be part of the 24/7 prayer emphasis.  Visit www.newlifechigao.org and check out the prayer schedule of the other New Life locations.

To God Be The Glory,

Pastor AL
